A Complete Guide – Converting and Burning Any Video Format to DVD

Extract video from a VCD

The first thing you need to do is extract your VCD files to your hard disk. If you already have extracted VCD files, then proceed to Convert Mpeg to AVI. For this operation, i chose VCDGear to get the job done.

First go to VCDGear.com, download, install and open. The software will look this(image below).

vcdgear

Extract VCD(.DAT) to Mpeg

Click the vcdgear tab. Under Extraction / Conversion, choose dat ->mpeg(scroll down menu) and don’t forget to tick Fix Mpeg Errors(see image below).

vcdgear2

Now put in your VCD that you want to extract in your Disc tray and click the load button. Locate your .DAT file and click Open. After that you will be prompt to save your converted file location(i prefer to save it at the desktop as it will be easy for me to locate). And don’t forget to press the Start button(see image below).

vcdgear3

Wait for the conversion to finish. You can also converts VCD(DAT) to MPG, SVCD(MPG) to MPG, VCD BIN/CUE to MPG, SVCD BIN/CUE to MPG(see image below).

Convert Mpeg to AVI

Before you convert to DVD format. You have to convert to AVI format first, go to Any-video-converter.com and download Any-video-converter. Install, open and locate the file you have just extracted just now. I saved the file at desktop so it’s easy for me to locate back(see image below).

dat-at-desktop

Next, at the top right corner, press the scroll down menu, choose Customized AVI Movie (*.avi) and press the Convert. Why i chose Customized AVI Movie (*.avi) whereas you can convert .DAT file to DVD straight away. Because this software doesn’t have the option to burn DVD right away.

avi

Why choose Customized AVI Movie (*.avi) and not Mpeg to convert to DVD? As for me i prefer Customized AVI Movie (*.avi) because i have tested using Customized AVI Movie (*.avi) and Mpeg on my DVD player. Customized AVI Movie (*.avi) works best for me.

Mpeg has standard resolutions and bitrates; it’s used for VCD’s and DVD’s. as for AVI is the windows-format for video; you can choose and edit bitrates, resolutions, sound quality, in general, AVI gives you more options.

Adding Subtitles to AVI

For this case is optional, if you have a different language in your video and you want to add subtitles in. Download and install DivXLand Media Subtitler. Open DivXLand Media Subtitler and go to open your video that you have converted to AVI.

open-video

Next, search for your movie title subtitle. You can use Opensubtitles.org to search. Opensubtitles.org is a movie subtitles database. If you can’t find your movie title, you can request one.

After you have found you subtitle, download it and add your subtitle to DivXLand Media Subtitler.

You can edit the title in Captioning Mode.
