Nowadays people have faster internet connections for surfing the web, download musics or even playing games online. But still, there are people using dial up connections to connect to the Internet. I hate to wait especially for slow websites. If I counter a slow website, I’ll simple just close it and search for other alternatives. If you don’t want that to happen to you, just follow these simple steps.

How to: Speed Up Your Blogspot Load Time

Optimizing your images

The bigger the size of your image on you blog, the slower your blog will load. So optimizing your image size is the only choice unless you don’t want to use any image on your blog. You can use free online image optimizer but i will be using Free Image Optimizer as this is a fast, simple process and optimize your images in bulk.

Firstly go to ImageOptimizer.net to download the software. Register for Image Optimizer desktop version by filling in the form stated in the site and click the Download. Install the software and begin the optimizing process.

To optimize, right on the image and click Optimize Here.

optimize here-Optimized

Your image will be rename after the process. To optimize your image in bulk, put all your images in one folder, right click the folder and click Optimize Here.

If you want a different setting for the optimizing, right click and click Optimize Image As….

setting

Now you got all your images optimized, you can upload your images. Don’t upload your images on blogger, use Photobucket.com instead. By hosting your images external, you can speed up your blog load time too.

Using Shorthand CSS Properties

By using CSS shorthand properties on your blog, you can also speed up your blog. Why? The theory is simple. LOL = Laugh Out Loud. The shorter the CSS on your blog, the faster your blog is.

Firstly, you need to find where is your CSS code on blogger. Login to your blogger dashboard, go to Layout -> Edit HTML and tick the Expand Widget Templates. Before you do anything, backup your template first.

Your CSS is located between <b:skin><![CDATA[ and ]]></b:skin>

Example:-

css

CSS Shorthand properties:-

Instead of using this

#header {
background-color: #fff;
background-image: url(image.gif);
background-repeat: no-repeat;
background-position: top left;
}

Use this below

#header {
background: #fff url(image.gif) no-repeat top left
}

Compressing your CSS

After you’ve convert your CSS to shorthand CSS, compressing your CSS is the best way to speed up your blog. Same as above locate your CSS again in blogger and copy all your CSS code. Remember, backup your template first.

Go to http://iceyboard.no-ip.org/projects/css_compressor and paste your CSS code in the CSS: box.

css compress

Left the Compression options intact, leave all the options tick and click the Compress Stylesheet

options

You will given the compressed CSS. You can see the statistic how much size you have saved.

css compressed

Copy the code and paste it between <b:skin><![CDATA[ and ]]></b:skin>. Before you save your blogger, preview it first to see if it works.

Limiting your Javascripts and Widgets Usage

Remove all unwanted widgets and JS on your blog. All these unwanted stuffs slows down your blog. If you programmed your own JS, go to JavascriptCompressor.com to compress your JS.

That’s all folks, follow these simple steps and your blog will be lightning fast!
