Making An Image Background Transparent with Photoshop alternatives

You don’t need to be a Photoshop expert to make an image transparent. You can do this with free alternatives available online and it’s free. You can spend up to US$699 to get Photoshop and that’s a lot of money. If you are a professional image editor, then you can consider to spend a lot of money for that software.

Well, if you just want to make an image background transparent, don’t waste your money. Here, i have gather some lists of Photoshop alternatives and guides on “How Make An Image Background Transparent with Photoshop alternatives“.

How Make An Image Background Transparent with Photoshop alternatives

1. Paint.NET

Download, install and open Paint.NET. Open an image that you want to work on, and select the Magic Wand under the Tools panel.(see image below)

After that, set the Tolerance to 25.(see image below)

Now use Magic Wand, double click on the image background that you want to be transparent and press the Delete key on your keyboard.(see image below for before and after)

Satisfied? Save your new transparent background image.

2. GIMP

Download, install and open GIMP. Open an image that you want to work on. Go to Layer Tab -> Transparency -> Alpha to Selection.(see image below)

After that, select the Fuzzy Select Tool under the Toolbox panel.(see image below)

Now use Fuzzy Select Tool, double click on the image background that you want to be transparent and press the Delete key on your keyboard.(see image below for before and after)

Satisfied? Save your new transparent background image.

3. IrfanView

Note: Only works with one color. If your image background consist more than one color. Please use GIMP or Paint.NET.

Download, install and open IrfanView. Open an image that you want to work on.

Next, save as (must be save as not save) your image to GIF – Compuserve GIF and follow the transparent settings.(see image below)

Rename your image and click Save. A pop up will come out Choose transparent color.(see image below)

Next, click on the image background (pop up Choose transparent color) and you are done. Your background is transparent, close IrfanView and open your edited image to check.

The last one is an online photo editor. This is great for small images and even saves your time without having to download any sofware to your computer.

4. LunaPic

Note: Only works with one color. If your image background consist more than one color. Please use GIMP or Paint.NET.

Go to LunaPic, upload your image. Next go Edit tab and go to Transparent.(see image below)

Next click on the image background that you want to work on.(see image below)

After you have click the background color. Your image will like this.(see image below)

After you have satisfied with your image, Save and Download your image.
